Lunch and Learn with Dr. Monica Parker
Monica Willis Parker, MD is a graduate of Fisk University and The University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Parker has been a clinician and faculty member of Emory School of Medicine since 1995. Through the years 2009-2013, Castle-Connolly Associates named Dr. Parker one of Atlanta’s Top Doctors in Geriatric Medicine; she was published by the Atlanta Magazine in 2015.
Around 2008, Dr. Parker began a transition of focus from practicing medicine to conducting cutting-edge dementia research. Dr. Parker has been awarded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the principal federal agency for health research in the United States, to study dementia in ethnic persons. Under her leadership, a community-academic partnership called the Registry for Remembrance was established to educate citizens of color about brain health. She has been co-investigator on several NIH funded projects that study biomarker differences in brain and dementing disease, health concerns of African American women and caregiving for aging individuals.
